So, the other day, as I was driving, I heard a story on the radio. The host was talking about how either he, or someone he knew was a lifeguard. The perfect summer job! As a lifeguard, he got to meet all kinds of people, from kids to pretty girls :) But, he also met some not so nice people too. One in particular, was Joe. Joe was a bully. He was the biggest, meanest kid around. Well, as luck would have it, Joe was swimming at the same time this kid was lifeguarding. Now, Joe was almost 6ft tall, and 200 lbs. and the lifeguard was 5'5, and 140 lbs. So there was quite a difference in body size.
Joe decided to do a little showing off. Unfortunately, it got him into trouble. He was struggling in deep water, and clearly needed help. But, the lifeguard just stood by, waiting. What was he waiting for? He was waiting for Joe to get to the point of just about drowning. Crazy? Yeah, it seems that way. But actually, it's the best thing to do. You see, Joe was fighting to stay above water...and if the lifeguard had intervened at that point, Joe would have just fought with him, and then both of them would be in trouble. So, in order for the lifeguard to save Joe, he had to wait until Joe quit fighting, gave up relying on his own strength, and let help come....then, and only then, did the lifeguard swim to Joe, wrap his arms around this person twice his size, and bring him safely out of the water.
Isn't it interesting....Joe had to quit fighting...quit trying to do it on his own...and then, and only then, could he be saved. How often are we like this with God? We kick, fight, argue, whine etc. before we finally give up...give it to God, and then, and only then can God intervene!
So, I guess what i'm hoping to pass along to you, is that even though you may feel like you are drowning, and that you have to try and "save" yourself....you don't have to!!! God is ready, willing and most certainly able to intervene, and rescue you! We only have to let Him!!

My thoughts about life.
